Knee Compression Stockings bind below my knee. What should I do?

Comments 3

For some people, knee high compression stockings leave a mark below their knee. This is due to several reasons. Everyone has a different leg, and some people have soft skin below their knee and compression stockings will leave a mark in soft skin. If there is too much swelling near the knee, a knee high compression stocking might not be adequate to address the swelling in that area and thus will leave a mark. This is an indication for you to check your sizing. If you have the right size on, but have swelling on or above the knee, you may want to consider wearing a thigh high compression stocking. Marks below the knee can also be a result of wearing knee high compression stockings that have a level of compression that is too strong. In that case, you may want to consider wearing a lighter level of compression. Usually people who wear 30-40 mmHg knee highs experience this.

The deep vein valves are not working properly in my legs causing excessive swelling from feet to approx. 2″ space between top of compression stocking & knee ( right leg ). Left leg has minimal swelling in same area. My stockings are 20-30. If I started wearing an over-the-knee stocking would that take care of the problem. This problem just started recently.

Hey John! Knee high compression stockings stop near the knee, so they don’t address problems on or above the knee at all. If you’re getting above average swelling, I would recommend that you consider wearing a thigh high compression stocking as it will help bring that swelling out of the leg.
